The continued support of LGBTQ+ rights and people, as a part of the university, is massively important. As candidate for LGBTQ+ officer, I would like to continue the good work that has already been done, in the past few years, such as making rainbow laces available to sports teams, and extend other things that have been implemented, such as making the pronoun badges available to students as well as staff. I would like to provide better connections with and between LGBTQ+ students, by offering support to those who are struggling to come to terms with coming out and by providing help to those who aren’t out yet but need our support. To create better connections between members of the LGBTQ+ community, I would create a Facebook group that you can opt to be in, where information about local LGBTQ+ events will be shared, as well as events within the university to celebrate both LGBTQ+ history month and pride month. I would also build a connection with the mental health officer, so that I am able to point anyone who needs help in the right direction. I would provide a monthly drop-in session, where people can come and bring ideas about how to improve LGBTQ+ policies or to simply, have a chat. I would also love to make connections with the charity akt and raise funds to support 16-25-year-old LGBTQ+ people who are living in a hostile environment or facing homelessness. I want the LGBTQ+ community to thrive.
