The International Students' Officer works to represent all International students (both EU and non-EU) here at Leeds Trinity University. They work throughout the year on a variety of projects, both raising the issues faced by International students and working to help build a sense of community amongst our international students.

Maria Beckwith is our currently elected International Students' Officer

To all International students,

I would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all who in one way or another have supported me in successfully gaining the position for International Student Officer this year. For those who do not know me, my name is Maria Beckwith. I have studied Philosophy Ethics and Religion last year and successfully gained 120 credits. I have decided to changed course this year to English Language and Linguistics to pursue a teaching career in the future specialising Linguistics.

I have always been actively involved in many areas pertaining leadership roles. I have worked with migrants and refugees at CHAS St Vincent's Bradford and collaborated with the organising committee at the Centenary Group in Bradford last Summer. I am passionate about helping people who are less fortunate than ourselves. I am an active Parish volunteer representing CAFOD in my local community organizing fundraising events to gather funds to send money abroad helping the most needy communities.

Throughout my youth I demonstrated effective leadership through organising various events to help develop talents of individuals. It entails distinguishing what each individual is best at. We organised several extra curricular activities throughout the year. For example stage performances, sports, educational trips, cultural events and so on. This has a massive impact to each person’s well-being. They have grown in self-confidence and had enormous changes of character especially those who have problems finding their identity within the society. The various events we have organised makes the world of difference to all the young people in my community. They became more diverse and have developed empathy towards one another. I believe that promoting community cohesion through various events and activities will enhance personal fulfillment which is vital to individual’s well-being.

In this instance, I will encourage everyone to contribute your ideas and suggestions. I value your contributions and I look forward to hearing from you all.

Many thanks.

Best wishes,

Maria
