Our Events and Marketing teams are responsible for events and activities for the SU, as well as overseeing marketing and events on both campuses. We want all members of the team to understand how the Students’ Union works and all the services and opportunities we provide to students. The ideal candidate will be able to assist in the planning and running of activities and be an advocate for the Union. We are looking for some new recruits to take up positions to this exciting role, where you will be working events, capturing content or supporting the work of the Marketing and Events team. Full training will be provided.

 

Main Purpose of Job:

 

  • To provide a welcoming and friendly first impression of the Students’ Union by delivering excellent and diligent customer service as well as providing general administrative support to all Students’ Union Departments and student groups.

 

  • To support the Events programme with the smooth running of Events. This will sometimes involve working outdoors or late nights, and will include helping to setup, deliver, and pack down events.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Provide excellent customer service, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for students and employ a problem-solving attitude to resolving issues.

• Listen to students’ needs and feed this back to the Community Events Team in an effort to continually improve the service.

• To provide administration support to all Students’ Union Departments including data processing, data recording and filing as needed.

• Help the Marketing and Events Team with event preparation such as printing, and laminating.

• Support with Marketing and Events Team duties such as helping to tidy the cupboard and take inventory.

• Be knowledgeable about and ready to discuss all upcoming Students’ Union Events.

• Service the Students’ Union area including selling event tickets and memberships.

• Help with the Students’ Union shop when required

• Signpost to the Union’s Advice and Support Centre according to protocol.

• Signpost students to the Student Union or University department best suited to help with their queries.

• Provide support as needed, including maintaining the admin work, posting, content creation and updating events.

• Help with the set up of student activities space.

• To represent the Students’ Union at events and activities and assist with the duties involved with the running of them.

• To work safely at all times and to report any potential hazards on to supervisor/line manager.

• Engage with students, staff and visitors at SU events.

• Help the Marketing and Events Team with any research into events and provide suggestions based on findings.

• To assist with the marketing communications for the events programme. This will involve the distribution of posters and leaflets around campus and in person promotion through stalls.

• To provide feedback on events worked and speak to students about their event experience.

• Provide excellent customer service, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for students and employ a problem-solving attitude to resolving issues.

• To ensure all relevant departmental activity is in line with the specific requirements of and the spirit of the Union’s Environmental Policy.

• Be a friendly and knowledgeable figure at events, creating a comfortable environment for students.

 

Expected Standards:

 

• As the post holder will have contact with customers and students, you will need to act in a polite, courteous, and helpful manner. At all times you will be concerned with ensuring that customers/students are satisfied with the service received.

• The post holder will present themselves for work being clean and tidy, wearing any stipulated uniform cleaned and ironed.

• The post holder will use their best judgement while on shift and refrain from using their phones, headphones, or completing coursework without line managers permission.

• The post holder will always display the highest standards of integrity.

• The post holder will observe high standards of punctuality.

• The post holder will not consume alcohol or illegal substances whilst on duty or arrive on duty under the influence of either.

• The post holder must work at least one shift per week during term time

 

Training/Induction


You would be required to attend an induction and training day. Date TBC depending on applicant availability. 

 

Pay 


Rate of pay £10.42 per hour.
