The Student Activities Committee (SAC)

The Student  Activities Committee (SAC) is a vital component of the student governance structure within a Students' Union. As the acronym suggests, SAC stands for Student Activities Committee and its primary responsibility is to oversee and manage the various clubs, societies and activities on campus. SAC plays a crucial role in approving, supporting and coordinating a wide range of student-led organisations that contribute to our vibrant and diverse student life across both campuses.

Here is a detailed description of the SAC's functions:

  1. Approval of Clubs and Societies: One of the primary roles of SAC is to review and approve new clubs and societies proposed by students. This involves assessing the purpose, goals and potential impact of the proposed groups to ensure they align with our values, governance and processes.

  2. Ensuring Smooth Operation: SAC is responsible for ensuring that all approved clubs and societies operate efficiently. This involves providing support, resources and guidance for our student leaders to successfully equip them in putting on fun, engaging and value-adding activities for their members.

  3. Student-Led Governance: SAC is designed to be student-led, meaning that the decision-making process is in the hands of the students. This structure ensures that students have control over the activities and groups that are offered by the Students' Union, fostering a sense of ownership and community engagement.

  4. Discussion of Sustainability: SAC engages in discussions related to sustainability, emphasizing the importance of environmentally conscious practices within student-led activities. This may include encouraging clubs and societies to adopt sustainable practices in their events and operations.

  5. Varsity and BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport): SAC plays a role in overseeing and supporting varsity events and BUCS competitions. This includes organising and promoting sporting events, ensuring that students have opportunities to participate in competitive sports at the university level.

  6. Activity Awards: SAC recognises and celebrates the achievements of clubs, societies and individual students through awards events. These awards may highlight excellence in leadership, innovation, community engagement and other aspects that contribute to a vibrant student experience.

In summary the Student Activities Committee serves as a central hub for student-led initiatives and student groups within a Students' Union. By overseeing the new group approval process, providing support and promoting a wide range of activities, SAC contributes significantly to the overall student experience and the development of a dynamic and inclusive Leeds Trinity community.
