How to Start a New Club or Society
Want to bring a new club or society to Leeds Trinity University? LTSU is here to help you turn your idea into reality!
Our clubs and societies are a great way to meet people, explore new interests and bring students together. If you have an idea for something that isn't currently offered, we'd love to hear from you.
Here's how to get started.
Step 1: Find your founding committee
Before submitting your idea, you'll need to find three students who are happy to take on committee roles.
Your founding committee must include:
Don't have three committee members yet?
Don't worry! If you've got an idea for a new club or society but are struggling to find other students to help you get it started, we can help.
Complete the Find Your Founding Committee Form and we'll share a post through LTSU channels to see if other students are interested in getting involved.
You never know who might share your interest!
Already have three committee members? Great! You can move straight on to Step 2.
Step 2: Submit your idea
Once you have your founding committee, Complete the Club/Society Formations Form.
We'll ask you for:
-
Your proposed club or society name.
-
A description of the group and the activities you plan to organise.
-
The names of your three founding committee members and their intended roles.
You'll also need to explain what your group hopes to achieve and how it will benefit students.
Please contact our Activities Coordinator at ltsuactivities@leeds-trinity.ac.uk if you have any questions.
Step 3: Proposal review and meeting
Once we've received your form, the Activities Coordinator and Vice President will review your proposal.
We'll consider:
-
Whether the proposed activities are legal.
-
Whether the idea duplicates an existing LTSU club or society.
-
Whether there is sufficient student interest in the idea.
If your proposal meets the initial requirements, we'll arrange a meeting with your three founding committee members. This is an opportunity to discuss your plans, including your aims, proposed activities, finances, membership costs and how you intend to keep the group active in the future.
Step 4: Student Activities Committee decision
Following your meeting, a report will be prepared and presented to the Student Activities Committee (SAC).
The committee will consider your proposal and can:
If changes are needed, we'll arrange another meeting and submit an updated report for the committee to consider.
Step 5: Demonstrate student interest
If your proposal is approved by SAC, we'll publicise an opportunity for students to express their interest in joining your proposed club or society.
Students will be able to register their interest, and at least 10 expressions of interest will be needed for the group to go ahead.
Step 6: Complete your club or society paperwork
Once the required student interest has been demonstrated, your founding committee will need to complete the following documents before the group can become active:
LTSU will provide the relevant templates and guidance to help you complete these.
Step 7: Get started!
Once all the required documents have been completed, your new club or society can become active!
Our team will be on hand to provide guidance and support as you get started. We can't wait to see what you create and the opportunities you'll bring to the Leeds Trinity student community.
