What is the Student Activities Committee?

The Student Activities Committee (SAC) is a vital component of the student governance structure within a Students' Union. As the acronym suggests, SAC stands for Student Activities Committee and its primary responsibility is to oversee and manage the various clubs, societies and activities on campus. SAC plays a crucial role in approving, supporting and coordinating a wide range of student-led organisations that contribute to our vibrant and diverse student life across both campuses.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Approving new Clubs and Societies – supporting potential new groups to be founded and to equip them for long-term sustainable futures to benefit the experience of our students
  • Supporting student leaders – giving help, resources and guidance to Committee members so that our Clubs and Societies can thrive in putting on value-adding experiences for their members

  • Promoting student representation in Student Activities – ensuring that students genuinely shape our Student Activities offer through active involvement in decision making, planning and gathering student insight

  • Encouraging sustainability – embedding sustainable practices across the SU Student Activities space, including supporting and advising Club and Society leaders on these

  • Devising events programmes – supporting with the planning and delivery of key events for Clubs and Societies such as reward and recognition events and Varsity alongside introducing new event ideas to benefit our members

In summary the SAC serves as a central hub for student-led initiatives and student groups within a Students' Union. By overseeing the new group approval process, providing support and promoting a wide range of activities, SAC contributes significantly to the overall student experience and the development of a dynamic and inclusive Leeds Trinity community.
