History was made when the university entered male and female relay teams for the first time ever. A total of nine individuals competed across relays and individual events over the two days breaking the previous record of three racers. As this was some of the member’s first high profile swimming competition, everyone performed exceptionally considering the pressures.
"It was great to see our students being able to compete at the short course competition this year with all the entry costs being covered by the Student Activities Committee. It wasn't long ago that we were not entering any swimmers. Credit has to go to Jacob, Lucy, Adam and Molly. They make swimming possible for other Trinity students." - Jake, SU Vice President.
The team set a total of 10 new university records beating previous records set the year before which is an outstanding achievement. Special mentions go out to Lucy Howes who obtained the highest ranked individual swim coming 103rd in the 50m Breaststroke out of the of all the British Universities. Jacob Reeve, Molly Dowse and Dylan Smith achieved new official best times between them, showing improvement and development of the Swim Team over the year it has been up and running.
Swimmer of the competition was awarded to Syd Dawson who managed to knock off a whole second off her 50m Free time in the medley relay and is now more than ready to compete individually in the next competition. It was excellent to see our freshers Georgia Beer, Emma Smith and Martin Schofield all competing, they have integrated into the team with ease and without them this wouldn’t have been possible. Special appreciation goes out to Captain, Adam Threlfall, who oversaw every swimmers race giving excellent feedback to help them develop for the future which everyone was grateful to hear.
I would just like to say thank you to everyone who participated this weekend this achievement wouldn’t have been possible without you and it shows just how far the team has come in just a year of running.
Jacob Reeve (Chair).
