Jargon Buster



Nominations are the time to put yourself forward or recommend a friend for a role. If you aren’t sure about what to go for you can come and have a chat with anyone in the SU about the different roles. 

Elections 101

A chance to find out the issues of the elections, meet current sabbatical officers and staff in the SU and ask any questions you may have about your Students’ Union. If you can’t make either of these sessions please feel free to come into the SU and ask questions at any time. 

Candidate Briefing


Candidate briefing will go through the rules of the elections. This is a mandatory meeting (ran twice to fit around your availability) for President, Vice-President and Student Council candidates. If you are unable to make this you should email No campaigning as defined in our campaign rules can take place before this meeting. Photos of President and Vice President candidates will be taken at the briefing for publicity purposes. 


Manifesto Deadline

After submitting your nomination, you can alter your manifesto (max 250 words), by emailing before the listed deadline. 

President and Vice President Voting Booklet

We will be publishing a booklet with the candidates President Booklet for President and Vice President. All candidates for these roles are asked to write 250 words on why students should vote for you and send this to by Monday 24 February 9am. The decision to include anything after this point will be at the discretion of the Deputy Returning Officer. You will also have the opportunity to have a photo alongside your 250 words which will be taken at the Candidate Briefings on Friday 21 February. This photo will be part of the guide.

Tips on campaigning, public speaking and useful information that may help you get elected. 

President and Vice President Video Filming

We will be filming promotional videos for students President Videos with the candidates for President and Vice President videos with the candidates for Vice-President. These will be filmed only at the time slots listed and will ask candidates to answer questions as a group. Examples of topics that might be covered are why students should vote for you and what would be the first thing you would do if you got elected. 


Voting takes place online at from Monday 4th March 2019 at 9am - Friday 8th March 2019 at 2pm. Don’t forget to include the URL link on your campaigning materials so other students know where and how to vote for you.


Results will be announced from 5pm on Friday 6th March in StUdio
