LTSU Advice can offer basic money guidance, help you understand your options, and signpost you to the right specialist support for anything more complex.

What the issue means

Money worries can be stressful. You might be struggling with budgeting, confused about student loans, or feeling unsure where to get reliable financial support. We can help you understand the basics and connect you with expert services.

 

Why it matters

Getting advice early helps you stay in control of your finances and reduces stress. Knowing where to get specialist help means you’re not dealing with things alone.

 

Do you need advice? / When does this apply to you?

You might want basic guidance or signposting if:

  • You’re struggling to budget or manage your weekly costs

  • You’re unsure where to find trusted information about student loans
  • You want to know what support the University offers for hardship
  • You’re receiving bills or letters you don’t fully understand
  • You don’t know which service to contact for detailed money or debt advice

 

What you can do yourself

  • Make a simple weekly or monthly budget

  • Track spending using your bank app

  • Check the University’s Money Advice pages for funding, bursaries, and hardship support

  • Check out Blackbullion’s website and app

  • Keep copies of letters or emails about bills or debts

 

When to contact SU Advice

Contact LTSU Advice when:

  • You need help understanding what the issue is

  • You need guidance on which service to contact
  • You want help reviewing a basic budget
  • You want to talk through your situation before approaching a specialist service

 

If you need in-depth financial or debt advice

You will be referred to:

  • University Money Advice Team – for hardship funds, student finance, bursaries, in-depth budgeting

  • Citizens Advice/StepChange – for debt support, creditor issues, repayment plans, benefits advice

 

Next steps:

  1. Think about what support you need (e.g., budgeting, hardship fund, debt advice)

  2. Gather relevant documents (letters, statements, bills)

  3. Contact LTSU Advice if you need help understanding your situation or who to speak to next

 

How SU Advice can help

We can:

  • Help you understand the basics of budgeting

  • Talk through the issue so you know your next step
  • Help you prepare before speaking to the University Money Advice Team
  • Signpost you to trusted specialist organisations (Citizens Advice, StepChange)

We cannot:

  • Provide debt management or negotiate with creditors
  • Offer legal financial advice
  • Assess you for hardship funds
  • Complete applications for you

But we can support you in understanding what’s going on and where you can get proper help.
