Black History Month

Black History Month has now come to an end and what fun it has been. Leeds Trinity Students’ Union [SU] came together to celebrate the history, contributions and achievements of the black people in the UK throughout October.

We had various events that bought everyone together such as our Afro-Caribbean food stall that went down a treat and our movie showing of ‘Django Unchained’.

Our very own BME officer, Mazn, got involved by speaking to the students about what Black History month means to them. This raised many inspiring opinions and heartfelt answers, for example:

"Black History month to me means acknowledging and appreciating the work that has been done from the past till now and how it impacts our community for the future"- Anonymous

"Black History month is a great way to bring communities together and celebrate traditions"- Anonymous

Mazn himself said that to him Black History month means, "Celebrating the wins that the black minority achieved around the world". He thought Black History Month went great and appreciated everyone's efforts and contributions to make it special.

“This month’s celebrations were amazing and we hope to do it all over again next year!”- Chris Dow, SU Vice President.

StUdio
The StUdio is open and running!
Our new and improved social space is now open and welcomes all students. It has so much to offer such as food, drinks and even live Sky Sports. There is a variety of affordable and cheerful foods to choose from such as 12” pizzas, chicken nuggets, wraps and even ice-cream! If you’re feeling something sweet there are a range of milkshake flavours to choose from, or maybe a hot drink from the new machine. After listening to what students wanted from their meals, there are also halal and vegetarian options.

If you want to influence how the space is developed or suggest new menu additions we are hosting an open forum on Thursday 14the November, 1-2pm, in StUdio.

Express yourself
Leeds Trinity Students’ Union wants to know what YOU think.

The Express Yourself Survey aims to make your SU work better for you. The survey will help to inform our next strategic plan, running from 2020 to 2023. We want this plan to be full of the ideas and opinions of Leeds Trinity students. It aims to understand what you want and need from your time and Leeds Trinity, what the SU should focus on improving, how the SU can help with your studies and whether you think our core values are still relevant.

World Mental Health Day - #Helloyellow
Leeds Trinity Students’ Union came together to support those facing mental health issues by wearing yellow, showing the students of Leeds Trinity that they are not alone. In support of this there was a bake sale, sports fixtures and a #yellow quiz night in the StUdio to fundraise and show support. The SU Shop also got involved with every yellow item being 10% off.

SU on Tour
We’re on tour!

SU on tour is an opportunity to meet with the President (Zoha Shah) and Vice President (Chris Dow) of the Students’ Union and feedback on topics that affect you. Each week they will be set up in a new location around the Uni, with a new topic to discuss such as Sports & Societies, campus services, SU shop feedback, etc. Students are free to voice their opinions on the topics or even bring up their own ideas.

Course Rep

We had our course rep elections and now have an amazing set of students representing their course. Course reps get together to give suggestions about what can be done to improve their course, shape their degree and feedback to the Students’ Union, as well as discussing what needs improving here at Leeds Trinity.

Find out who your course rep is here.
