A few weeks ago, Rachel (Vice President) and Aleksandra (Sustainability Officer) attended SOS-UK's annual Sustainability Bootcamp.
This two-day training event is designed for elected officers to gain knowledge and skills on topics to do with sustainability and social justice, including understanding the social, environmental, and economic dimensions of sustainability.
Rachel and Aleksandra met with officers up and down the UK to discuss ideas and campaigns - they're bringing these discussions back to LTU to improve sustainability on campus and beyond for students like you. So what did they have to say about the event?
Aleksandra (Sustainability Officer):
"I really enjoyed it – I gained massive perspective on what I want to do for the University and students and massive perspective on what I want to do in the future. It was eye-opening and it opened a lot of doors because they taught us loads about sustainability which created a lot of ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of before the Bootcamp."
Rachel (Vice Preisdent):
"I enjoyed learning about the Climate Emergency, the effects of single-use plastics, and sustainable food.
Next year, I have planned to take action learning and educating students on sustainable foods. Through our own little growth patch on campus to how you can become more sustainable through eating.
At the Bootcamp I feel like I gained lots of new skills, networking with other officers, leadership on tasks, and independence on individual tasks.
I would love to get to know more about implementing sustainability into the curriculum and how we do that through our course studies at the university."
