Undergraduate Results Day Is Coming Up – We’re Here if You Need Us

Results Day is this Friday for Undergraduate students.

We know this time of year can bring a real mix of emotions — excitement, nerves, relief, and sometimes disappointment. However you’re feeling when you open your results, please remember: you’re not on your own.

If you receive your results and feel that something isn’t right, you may be able to submit an academic appeal. Here’s what you need to know.

What Is an Academic Appeal?

An academic appeal is a formal process that allows you to ask the University to review a decision made about your results.

It’s important to understand that an appeal isn’t about simply being unhappy with a mark. Instead, it’s about whether there’s a valid reason to believe the decision may have been unfair or incorrect.

When Might You Be Able to Appeal?

You may be able to submit an appeal if, for example:

  • You have new evidence relating to Mitigating Circumstances that you couldn’t reasonably have provided at the time.

  • There has been a breach of regulations or procedure.

  • There is evidence of discrimination or bias.

  • An administrative error has occurred.

Appeals cannot be made simply because you disagree with the academic judgement of the marker. They must be based on specific grounds (like those listed above) and supported by evidence.

What Should You Do First?

Before submitting anything, we strongly recommend getting advice.

Talking things through can help you:

  • Understand whether you have valid grounds to appeal

  • Make sure you’re using the correct process

  • Avoid missing important deadlines
