Housing Advice

We’re here to help students navigate housing issues and empower you to make informed choices. From disrepair and deposits to tenancy agreements and landlord communication, we can provide guidance on common housing challenges. Rent is one of your biggest expenses, so it’s important to know your rights and options.

What we can do:

  • Point you to the Unipol Leeds website to find approved landlords, lettings agents, and available properties.
  • Give practical advice on searching for properties in Leeds and things to watch out for.
  • Share advice and tips from real student Landlords.
  • Advise on when to start looking for a property during the academic year.
  • Provide guidance on good practice before, during, and after moving into a new place.
  • Advice about Guarantors and organisations that can help.
  • Offer advice about guarantors and organisations that can help.
  • Support you if you have issues with your landlord or letting agent, including:
    • Agreements on repairs to the property.
    • Health hazards like mould or other building issues
    • Deposit disputes, claims of damage, and cleaning fees (including using legal deposit holding schemes)
    • Understanding tenancy agreements and what to do if someone leaves a tenancy early

What we don't do:

  • Directly recommend individual landlords or letting agents in Leeds or the Horsforth area
  • Maintain a register of “approved” landlords or agents
  • Broker letting agreements on behalf of students
  • Check tenancy agreements for legal compliance, but we can help you spot anything unusual or potentially concerning.
  • Find accommodation for students
  • Get directly involved in disputes between students, landlords, or letting agents (we can, however, advise on best practice and possible solutions)
