As a democratic, membership charity we have a range of documents that help explain how we run and make decisions. These are known as our governance documents.

How to propose a policy
Any student who is a full member of the Students' Union (all students are automatically members unless they have opted out) is able to propose a policy at a Student Council meeting. To do this, you will need to put your idea together and submit it through our Students' Say hub online. Twenty-five students will need to interact with your idea in order for it to be proposed to Council, and for policy to be passed regarding a Union position on your idea. You might want the Students' Union to change its own internal practices in some way, lobby the University to change the way they work, lobby local or national Government on a particularly issue, or take some other form of action that you think would make a difference to students' lives. If you would like to discuss an idea or put a policy forward following submitting an idea, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org, addressing your email to Charles, copying in email@example.com. Please include your name and student number in the email.
